Hospital "alla Prova"
The historical building called “Ospedale alla Prova”, where the Archaeological Environmental Centre is currently housed, dates back to the final phase of the fortresses erection in Legnago; its structure, conceived by the French army at the beginning of the nineteenth century as a barracks-stable for the cavalry troops, was kept unchanged by the Austrian army, arrived in Legnago in 1814; but in 1835 the Austrians turned the building into a military hospital, strong enough to withstand artillery fire (hence the noun “attempt” added to the hospital): a metre and a half layer of earth was placed under the roof in order to deaden any explosions.
